FAFSA – October 1, 2016 Filing
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a form that must be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) to determine their eligibility for student financial aid, such as state or federal grants.
Anyone who will be attending college in the 2017-2018 school year will be able to file their FAFSA beginning Saturday October 1, 2016. In the past families were not able to complete their FAFSA until January 1st.
In the past, the FAFSA used the previous year’s tax data. Beginning in October 2016 (for aid applications for the 2017-18 award year), families will be allowed to file the FAFSA using prior-prior year (PPY) tax data. To access the FAFSA please go to fafsa.ed.gov. Please keep in mind that this is a FREE application and under no circumstance should you pay any fees.
We will be hosting a workshop on November 17, 2016 at 6:00pm in the BCHS Library. The workshop will be presented by PHEAA (Pennsylvania High Education Assistance Agency) and will discuss the FAFSA/ paying for college. If you are interested in attending this workshop please contact Mrs. Dagnall at 412-922-7400 x224 to reserve a seat.
Feel free to contact Mrs. Liptak, Guidance Counselor, with any questions.
