Jesuit Discernment for Business Leaders
On Friday, November 21, 2014 the Bishop Canevin Alumni Association hosted Fr. Kevin O’Brien, Author and Vice President for Mission and Ministry at Georgetown University, as their second Ignatian Spiritual Leadership Speaker for more than 35 guests at St. Paul’s Seminary.
Fr. Kevin O’Brien coordinates the largest interfaith campus ministry in the country and directs programs in the Catholic and Jesuit tradition with faculty, students and alumni at Georgetown.
Before joining the Jesuits in 1996, Fr. O’Brien practiced law and taught high school in south Florida where he grew up. As a Jesuit he has worked and lived in India, Mexico, and Bolivia, and served as a chaplain in an immigration detention center on the Arizona-Mexico border.
Event attendees received continental breakfast, Fr. Kevin’s 1 1/2 hour seminar on Jesuit Discernment for Business Leaders and a copy of his book, “The Ignatian Adventure: Experiencing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in Daily Life.” Click here for a video interview with Loyola Press on the book.
The event was a huge success, and the Alumni Association will welcome their next speaker, Susan Vogt, on Friday, February 13. Be sure to make it! Click here to view the event flyer.
As the only Ignatian/Jesuit based high school education in Western PA, it is the goal of Bishop Canevin to educate its students and community about these teachings.
The teaching philosophy of Ignatian Spiritual Leadership asserts that God is present in our world and active in our lives. It is an ethical and moral compass that leads to deep prayer, good decisions guided by careful thought, and service to others.
