The Social Studies Department at Bishop Canevin has designed its courses to provide opportunities for the students to acquire knowledge in the fields of history, the behavioral sciences and political science. We push our students to learn their place in the present by understanding the complex processes that have shaped the past. The department helps students with analytical and comprehensive skills so they can ask questions about why and how things in the past happened. Every course has students research topics and develop their writing skills. So that our students are prepared for life in the 21st century, the social studies department fully integrates technology into the curriculum. We do this with projects showing the proper function of Power Point technology and the use of the iPad and Smart Board. Many of our courses use iPad based texts so that students have easier access to the material. The course material from the Social Studies Department is both rigorous and rewarding and helps our students reach their fullest potential when they enter college.
To further challenge students who show exceptional ability and more advanced skills, honors courses are offered during the two years and Advanced Placement and College in High School courses in the junior and senior years. In this way our students can earn up to 18 college credits while completing required courses of study.
