Service Opportunities

Bishop Canevin Mission Trip 2016 to Washington, PA

Students must complete 25 total hours of service each school year.  10 of these hours must be Magis Hours.   Magis Hours are defined as hands-on service to individuals in need, including those in our society who are poor, marginalized, or disadvantaged.

All service hours must be completed outside of the regular school day through an approved agency.  Kind deeds and help provided to family members, neighbors, or friends will not count as service hours.

Regular Service Hours can be earned in a variety of places and settings, including:

  • BCHS youth sports camps
  • Your parish – festivals, fish frys, bingo, VBS, altar servers, choir
  • Your community library
  • Organized events at school

Magis Hours will always be approved for service provided at these agencies:

  • Catholic Charities
  • Northside Common Ministries
  • Global Links
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank
  • St. Vincent DePaul Society
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • American Red Cross
  • Special Olympics
  • Make-a-Wish Foundation

Verification of students’ service hours must be submitted on paper using our school service hour form.  Alternatively, hours can be submitted on the letterhead of the agency at which the service was performed via a letter written by the individual who supervised the service.  No service hours will be accepted by email.
