At some point in our lives, each of us has gazed at the night sky in awe of its sheer magnitude. While we have learned much about our planet and its relationship to other celestial bodies, in many ways, the cosmos is the last great frontier. But how did it come to be? How large is it? How much do we know about the universe versus what remains to be discovered? This course provides an introduction to the solar system, stars, the interstellar medium, the galaxy and the universe. It is also design to force students to think like scientists – separating fact from theory, studying relationships between objects in search of patterns, and more. Please note that Astronomic principles are grounded in Physics (which is largely grounded in Mathematics). Though students need not have studied Physics previously, they should be prepared to work within this discipline. Requires AVLI fee.
