Bishop Canevin's Girls Volleyball team was the first to play on the new Gym Floor with their season opener Thursday night against Hillcrest Christian Academy. Before fans were allowed into the gym, the ceremonial ribbon was cut by the volleyball team captains. The Gym resurfacing project took only three weeks to complete after successfully raising $45,000 from alumni, parents and students to cover the projects cost. The Crusaders defeated Hillcrest in three sets to start their chase for a fifth-straight WPIAL Championship.
PITTSBURGH ROTARY “STUDENT OF DISTINCTION” PROGRAM The Pittsburgh Rotary Club’s primary service objective is supporting Pittsburgh Youth in achieving their full potential. This Youth Service is achieved through Interact Clubs (High School), Rotaract Clubs (Colleges) and specific local Service Projects. One specific such local Service project is the “Student of Distinction” Program. This project is a partnership of Rotary and a number of local Secondary Schools through which outstanding Senior Students are honored for outstanding performance in both academics and community service. The Pittsburgh Rotary Club honors one Student of Distinction each month at a Wednesday luncheon at the Omni William Penn Hotel. The student, the student’s parents or guardians and a school representative are luncheon guests of the Rotary Club. The Award Ceremony features a description of the student’s qualifications by the School Representative followed by student remarks. A handsome personalized plaque is presented to the student to memorialize the event. The selection of the students to be honored as Rotary “Students of Distinction” is totally in the hands of the schools. The only Rotary requirement is that the student selected must have an excellent record of community/school service in addition to a strong academic record. The Pittsburgh Rotary Club is the 20th oldest Rotary Club. There are currently over 34,000 Rotary Clubs in the World.

As part of Mrs. Smith's American Literature curriculum, all the sophomores individually compose and illustrate a children's comic book/EZ reader with a theme of the Christmas holiday season. For the fourth year in a row, the books are then donated to a local elementary school for their kindergarten/first graders to read and enjoy. This year, the books were donated to Our Lady of Grace School. The Honors American Literature students also composed Letters from Santa that were given to the preschool students enrolled in SS. Simon & Jude Early Childhood Center.

On #GivingTuesday you can make your annual gift to the Bishop Canevin Fund! Donations - of any amount - to the Bishop Canevin Fund gives us the ability to improve educational programs and increase tuition assistance. These two areas - quality and affordability - drive enrollment in a competitive marketplace. Your gift will impact Canevin’s growth, as these donations give students who otherwise would not be able to attend the financial support to do so.
