Each day I could walk through the inauspicious rectangular door and be transported somewhere much different than where I started, somewhere far away or close to home. I traveled on my knees through the cold Virginia trenches of World War I. I rode the carousel with Holden Caulfield in the city center of New York in The Catcher in the Rye. I piloted the first airplane with the Wright brothers on that sunny day in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. I ran into the burning church with Johnny and Ponyboy in The Outsiders. I crossed the Ohio River with Sethe and her family in Beloved. Through all my journeys, in and out of every universe, I was never alone. I had a captain, fellow soldier, hero—teacher with me. A teacher that was unwavering in his or her mission to inspire me. Because of my teachers, I am a firm believer that education is an experience that goes far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Education does not begin in kindergarten nor end in the twelfth grade, but it is a forever journey that begins at birth and continues throughout a lifetime. I am very blessed to have the opportunity to share my passion for learning with the students at Bishop Canevin High School
