This course will offer an introduction to the disciplines of history and social science, focusing on the study of the world’s people, communities, and cultures. Topics will include physical geography, population, cultural patterns and processes, political organization of nations, agriculture and rural land use, industrialization and economic development, cities and urban land use. The course will also use modern current events to understand the global issues facing our world today. There is a strong emphasis on information processing skills such as comparing and contrasting, classifying, and hypothesizing over the course of the year.
