Scholarships

Any student who attends Bishop Canevin after participating in the school’s Math & Science program for 8th graders will be granted a $1,000 scholarship in their Freshman year and renewable for $500/year thereafter.

This fund supports the Alumni Discount provided to families who choose to continue their Catholic education at Bishop Canevin High School.

The Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ Scholarship is a $1,000 grant awarded to incoming Freshmen who achieve a score in the top 85th percentile of the Bishop Canevin Placement Exam. The Arrupe Scholarship is named in honor of the Jesuit priest who served as the twenty-eighth Superior General (1965-1983) of the Society of Jesus. Fr. Arrupe was instrumental in renewing the mission of the Jesuits in awareness of Social Justice issues throughout the world.

Awards of $500 will be made to incoming Freshmen based on students’ grade school academic performance and review of Scholarship Application and Essay.

Established by an anonymous donor to provide tuition assistance to incoming Freshmen. Awards are renewable for four years upon verification of a 3.0 GPA.

Established by Raymond Ban ’69, Gene Fornaro ’69, Michael McGinley ’69, Christopher W. Schnieders ’69, and Charles Turack ’69, this scholarship is awarded to an incoming Freshman who is a member of St. Philip Parish, has achieved academic success during their grade school years, and is in need of financial assistance.

Named in memory of Mrs. Doris Hesselberg, former Bishop Canevin teacher. This scholarship is awarded to two incoming students who have at least a ‘B’ average.

Established and funded in honor of the Bishop Canevin Faculty, this scholarship is awarded to students with financial need.

Two (2) one-half tuition renewable scholarships are awarded to incoming Freshmen based solely on academic achievement. Criteria evaluated for consideration are: Bishop Canevin Placement Test scores, standardized test scores, and academic records. Renewable annually. Students must maintain a 3.5 or greater GPA.

Grace Gaita was a student who valued her faith, family, education, and community. She was a gentle person who had a love for music, academic achievement and those around her. The Grace Gaita Scholarships and Awards Program was established in 2022. These scholarships are awarded to two incoming students who have a love of the Marching Band and two incoming students from Ave Maria Academy.

Established by the McGinley Family in memory of their late parents and grandparents, Jack and Anna Mae, with preference given to an incoming Freshman with one or more sibling(s) currently attending at Bishop Canevin. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have a ‘B’ average, demonstrate leadership and take the Placement Test at Bishop Canevin.

Established by David and Barbara Barnhart (class of 1971) in honor of her parents John Sr. and Anna Rellich who strongly believed in the value of a Bishop Canevin education. The candidate must demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.0 average GPA. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded and renewed annually.

Established by Marilyn Schwab to honor the memory of her daughter, Maura Grace Schwab ’04 who passed away in 2015. The applicant must demonstrate financial need, should be a ‘B’ average student and an active participant in church, community and/or school activities.

Established by a number of his former students in memory of beloved math teacher, Mr. John Mieczkowski, with preference given to an incoming Freshman from a local parish with an interest in Math.

This $1,500 scholarship is awarded to one incoming Freshman from the City of Pittsburgh. The student must display a commitment to the community of faith and volunteerism.

Awarded based on financial need and academic promise.

Sister Judy was a longtime administrator, moderator and supporter of the performing arts at Bishop Canevin High School. This scholarship is awarded to students who have a financial need and love of the performing arts.
