This course covers the main topics of general chemistry. Conceptual themes include the study of the particles that make up matter, energy changes, the periodic table of elements, types of chemical compounds, and chemical reaction equations. The study of chemistry involves the understanding of quantitative data; this course also focuses on the mathematical concepts of chemistry including energy changes, the mole, chemical composition, and stoichiometry. This course includes a laboratory period in which students will be expected to learn and demonstrate scientific techniques using equipment and materials to investigate the physical and chemical properties of matter.
PREREQUISITE: Biology.
