It is our great pleasure to announce Senior John Ridilla as the recipient of Bishop Canevin’s AMDG given to students who actively live Bishop Canevin’s mission by “Doing All Things for the Greater Glory of God.”
John continues the tradition of excellence in the classroom by carrying a 4.27 GPA and displaying academic consistency earning High Honors in all (14) quarters grades 9-12.
In what is likely to resonate with future employers, John has never missed a day of school while enrolled at Bishop Canevin. Not only been present but he has been on time for all 633 days he has been enrolled at Bishop Canevin. John’s daily actions reflect a true ‘Person for Others’ in a variety of ways. Completely unsolicited, John is one of the first students to arrive each morning and on his own spaces out the chairs in the cafeteria in an effort to keep us safe and socially distant throughout the school day.
Currently with Mr. Wiegand injured, John sets up for morning Phys. Ed classes well before most people have even arrived. John is highly involved in BC Athletics participating in (4) varsity sports and is considered a model teammate by coaches and fellow team members. “John exemplifies what it means to put we before me as an athlete, teammate, and competitor. His unselfishness and willingness to learn to learn and dedication to the team make him a pleasure to coach. (Head Soccer Coach Wes Burdette)”. “John is totally focused and committed to the success of the team. He is proud to represent Bishop Canevin in everything he participates in, and we are proud to have him represent the school, (Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Pete Barakat).”
John is actively involved in both his parish and community. For (4) years he has accompanied Fr. Dan Sweeney to Appalachia building homes for those in need. For the past (3)years he has served as recreation director for St. Therese Vacation Bible School and is a volunteer coach for the St. Therese Girls Volleyball and Basketball teams. A student with a deep appreciation for the history of Bishop Canevin High School, this student John has carved out for himself his own unique place in our school’s history. It is my pleasure to announce John Ridilla as the latest recipient of Bishop Canevin’s AMDG Award.
