Student Assistance

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

Bishop Canevin’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a service that is designed to help students who are having a difficult time being successful in school. Parents, teachers, or another concerned individual can refer a student to the SAP Team. Some situations that may prompt a referral can be if a student is struggling with grief and loss, sudden academic struggles, moving homes/new school, poor attendance, chronic disciplinary problems, struggling socially, etc. The SAP Team consists of teachers, counselors, and administrators who also partner with the school nurse and IU psychologists if needed. The team meets regularly to construct strategies on how to assist these students. Once a plan is organized the team or a member of the team will meet with the student and his/her family. Recommendations are made to help resolve the problem/s in hopes of leading to a successful social and academic experience here at BC.

Tutoring

Peer tutors can be provided upon request. We will do our best to link up you child with an upperclassman or current classmate that they feel comfortable working with. Many of our NHS students volunteer to peer tutor. Please email Mrs. Miller millers@bishopcanevin.org or Mrs. Rossi rossil@bishopcanevin.org with your request. We can also make recommendations for outside tutoring services if needed.
