Principal’s Welcome

“We endeavor to prepare our students for a life anchored in faith, enlightened by learning and enhanced through service to others.”

Principal Michael Joyce

Simply walking through the halls of Canevin, one can witness these words of our Mission Statement come alive through the caring community formed by our faculty, staff, and students. Together, we create a school community based on Christian values; a safe and supportive environment conducive to the demands of rigorous academics, strong leadership development and quality extra-curricular programs.

Our students develop 21st Century learning skills through engaging, exciting and thought-provoking educational experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. The interaction between our caring staff and passionate young people provides for a stimulating environment where our students are challenged to explore, inquire, analyze, problem-solve and develop leadership skills which will prepare them for higher education and life-long learning.

As a college preparatory high school, our students typically score several grade levels higher than the national and state norms on standardized testing. Approximately 99% of our graduates matriculate to college or pursue other post-baccalaureate studies. Bishop Canevin students are outstanding among schools in receiving a college scholarship, each graduating class in the past several years has received over $6 million in scholarship offers. Additionally, our students have the opportunity to earn up to 36 university credits by graduations, thereby accelerating them in their undergraduate degree studies.

The interaction between our caring staff and passionate young people provides for a stimulating environment that encourages spiritual, intellectual and social growth. The integration of religious truths and values with the study of the arts and sciences prepares our students to analyze their contemporary culture with insight and intelligence. The promotion of Catholic values, engagement in service to the community and the development of strong moral decision-making skills molds our students in the respect for all of life, so necessary to live ethically and compassionately in an ever-changing global society. Not only are these Christian values expressed throughout the curriculum, but also by the presence of faculty and staff who witness to the spirit of the Gospel in their personal and professional lives.

For over 60 years, Bishop Canevin has instilled in young men and women a sense of self-confidence, determination, and camaraderie which results in behavior that makes them proud to wear the Canevin emblem. This pride is evident in the many achievements throughout our diverse extra-curricular and athletic programs and in our nearly 10,000 graduates who cherish their high school memories and have gone on to distinguish themselves throughout the world in a variety of professions, interests, and services.

We are proud of our rich heritage and tradition of excellence! As you contemplate Bishop Canevin High School for your son or daughter’s high school education, we hope that you, also, will find us to be a place “anchored in faith, enlightened by learning, and enhanced through service to others.”
